This season saw the ladies enter not one but two competitive leagues for the very first time, and on their debut season have held their own, playing some outstanding cricket and showing Shropshire the wonderful inclusivity and ethos of our club.
Throughout the season the ladies team has been made up of great mix of players of all ages from those who are experienced in both softball and hardball, those who have only ever played softball and even some who have never played any cricket before. They have put a team out every Sunday morning, playing great cricket and always having fun, showing significant improvement as the season has progressed.
After just playing 10-a-side friendlies last season, the ladies progressed into the Strategic Leisure Super 10s Softball league where they finished a very respectale 5th place out of 8 teams, just 4 points behind Shelton.
The ladies also entered the Shropshire 8s Hardball League this year, a scary prospect for most of the team at the start of the season as many of them had never held a hardball before and soon realised that our usual motto of "Wack it and run" doesn't work in hardball cricket. Nevertheless, the ladies excelled and finished 4th in the league on joint points wth 3rd place team Oswestry.
This means that in their first hardball season they have made it into the finals! The finals day is this Sunday (11th September) at Wroxeter & Uppington Cricket Club starting at 11am. It would be amazing if you could come down to support our ladies as they play their final two summer games against Forton and Oswestry in the fight to be crowned Shropshire Ladies Hardball Champions 2022!
